Priscilla Raie Masala, born 24 September 1993, known professionally as Cilla Raie, is a British R&B and Pop singer-songwriter from Hornsey, North London. Her parents are of Angolan descent; she is the youngest out of three with two older brothers. Cilla grew up being influenced by old school R&B acts such as Aaliyah, Brandy, Toni Braxton and Destiny’s Child, all of whom she credits as key inspirations for her music today. Cilla attended Greig City Academy in North London, leaving with 11 GCSEs including Double A star Music GCSE’s and A-levels. She then went on to study a degree in Public Relations at the University of Westminster in London, graduating with a BA honours. In 2015 she obtained a Postgraduate Scholarship Award to study a MA Masters degree in Music Business Management at University of Westminster.
Cilla started singing from the age of 11 performing at various open mic’s talent shows and venues such as Hackney Empire building her confidence. As well as training at stage school and attending auditions in and around London. She took inspiration from watching members of her family also pursuit music, from her producer brother Peddy Pedro formally known as Sneakie Sly. Her cousins, former underground rappers from Shoddy Crew, Shotta D and Mystro, musical rapper Avelino and Zapatero from afrobeats group LDNC. At the tender age of 14, Cilla began songwriting to start perusing a career in the music industry. She wrote and recorded her first song using her brother Peddy Pedro’s home studio equipment, who was an underground producer with credits with Lady Leshur. As well as working with Pilot Palmer (known as Lazy) and Teriy Keys (known as Smurfie Syco).
Cilla made her move onto the music scene being discovered by English grime record producer DaVinche (Wiley, Stormzy, Skepta). Under his guidance he began mentoring her along with his former manager Jackie Davidson (Wayne Hector). As Cilla continued to progress she developed professional relationships and started working with established music producers such as KZ, The Arcade, Joey Dyer, Skripture, Sillkey, Rymez, The Writers Block, Fred Cox, The Fives, Z Dot, Jay Jay Musika, Tre Jean Marie and Adam Midgley. Cilla’s songwriting skills opened the doors for her to write and demos songs for other artists having sessions at some of London’s best studios such as Notting Hills Sarm Studios, EMI studios, F Block Studios, Chocolate Factory, she began to cement her brand and create relationships with UK and US producers. Her hard working ethic meant she was able to create recognition and relationships internationally with American producers and songwriters such as Autumn Rowe (Leona Lewis, Little Mix) and recognised for her talents by Warren “Oak” Felder (Rihanna, Nicki Minaj).
In 2012 Cilla decided to take the independent route first and joined Teriy Keys who is the founding member and protégé and former signee of Dizzee Rascal and his Dirtee Stank imprint. Under his management company division R.O.A.D entertainment Cilla would release and distribute her first debut EP.On the 7th November 2014 her first self titled debut EP ‘Cilla Raie’ available across all digital stores such as Itunes, Amazon, HMV Digital. The EP songs such as No Love, Frozen, and Echoes were written and recorded when she was 18 years old. The delay of the songs was due to changing management situations. When she joined R.O.A.D she decided to keep some of the songs she recorded and release them. The entire EP was written by the singer herself and co-produced by ‘Sillky' (Mabel, Mahalia, Craig David) 'The Arcade' (Doja Cat, Khalid, Migos) and Joey Dyer ( Iggy Azealia, Katy B) with major backing from BBC Introducing, MOBO awards and UK Music. Her debut EP in total has had a total of over 41,000 on soundcloud alone. On the night of the EP release ROAD entertainment threw the Official Cilla Raie EP Launch Part at Visions nightclub in Dalston. Cilla received press coverage on the Ham & High Newspaper. As well as various reviews covering the EP from music journalist sites and bloggers such as Josepvinaxia, Singersroom, R&Bxclusives, Chart shaker. The reception was positive with music bloggers such as Alfitude saying “Still so very unknown, but when you listen to this album sampler you knows there will soon be some considerable big-label heavyweights backing this lady. One to watch for sure.”
The Cilla Raie EP caught the attention of DJ Bliss and he then went on to make Cilla February’s artist of the month on Pulse Radio’s Ladies edition show. With further recognition and support from The A&R Report Show on DASH radio in the United States. Cilla Raie also went on to perform at shows such as The Goddess Festival performing alongside a line up with British R&B/Soul singer Mahalia. Cilla has also embarked on a National School tour with the music industry’s UK legislation group, UK Music. The tour included an exclusive live performance from Cilla Raie, as well as delivering private music led workshops to students alongside Former Dizzee Rascal and R.O.A.D Label manager Teriy Keys, Local MP’s and Former Head of UK Music Jo Dipple.. The tour stopped at various regions and schools including Dagenham High School, Craigroyston High School and Harrow School. Cilla Raie’s UK School tour also included panel appearances with other notable music industry professionals. The tour generated national press coverage with the Ham & High Newspaper, Barking and Dagenham Post Newspaper.
In 2017, Cilla released her first official single ‘Masterpiece’. The MOBO Awards exclusively premiered the VEVO official video, with over 14,000 views on her music video for Masterpiece in less than 2 weeks. ‘Masterpiece’ featured on urban platforms such as Link Up TV, Spotlight First, New Lease Music, R&Bass, Singersroom, R&Bxclusives, The lunch Table Talks Show and Urban Development. Masterpiece was supported by BBC Introducing received various radio plays including BBC 1xtra with DJ Ace. Cilla Raie embarked on a radio tour with live interviews at New Style Radio 98.7 with DJ Smooth Fuego, Westside Radio, DeJa Vu FM, Pulse Radio, Climax Radio, Radar Radio with DJ P Montana and Choice Radio. Including international radio play in France with Prun Radio. Including addition to the release Cilla performed at London’s top live music and artist development platform iLuvLive who have supported acts such as Ed Sheehan and Jessie J. Her single Masterpiece generated over 30,000 plays on Soundcloud prior to any marketing campaign and has garnered over an additional 10,000 streams on spotify after its release.
With the release of her second single ”Ain’t No One” produced by Joey Dyer (Iggy Azalea, Katy B, Conor Maynard) she combines her love for R&B and soul music, delivering soft and sultry vocals with heartfelt lyrics. With singles to be released throughout the year and an EP due to be released early 2021, the project pay's homage to R&B and embodies the growing pains of love and life as a young British woman. Currently Cilla is working on her second two-part EP for 2021 release, with productions from Jay Jay Musika (Ms Banks), Joey Dyer (Iggy Azalea, Katy B), Delirious (Paigey Cakey, Big Tobz).
